Union Strategies for the Representation of Platform Delivery Workers in Spain

Abstract Food-delivery digital labour platforms started to operate in Spain 2016. As other national contexts, these have misclassified workers as independent contractors rather than employees, shifting responsibilities and risks onto who been forced under marketized relationships lacking protection. This paper analyses trade unions practices strategies targeted towards food-delivery platform (riders) Spain. The findings are based on desk research fieldwork consisting of semi-structured interviews with representatives from different self-organized workers’ associations. article shows how unions’ resting litigation social dialogue ended up the first legislation Europe which introduced a rebuttable presumption employment field delivery platforms. At same time, it limitation those institutional power resources due fragmentation interests newly platforms’ circumvent law.
